Night ride light advice

Im new to Dorking and keen to try some of your night rides this summer. I curently only own lights suitable for roads with street lights.

Im looking to purchase a front light and/or helmet light suitable for night MTB trail riding.

Any advice on what to go for?

Thanks

Ed

Sunday the 25th Ride?
hello guys
Is there anyone riding on Sunday that I could tag along with?
I will be traveling from Essex to Bristol and would like to ride some new trails on the way home.

Hello Geoff, soory not to reply but no rides were planned for Sunday. As it happens I did go out alone but on a very ordinary route.

As with the rest of the country the trails here are far from there best due to all this rain and if you had gone out with us theres no way we could have given you a good indication of what the riding really is like in these parts.

If you're ever passing this way when the trails are in better condition feel free to contact us again and will try harder to sort a ride out with you.

Weds nighters
Thanks for letting me form part of the peleton last night!
I hope I can get along to a few more ride before my contract ends.
If there is anyone reading this thinking of going along - do it!
trails are bloody blinding!
24km, 900m of climbing chased down by some good ale.

What's not to like :)

I wasn't there, was with a small 'Cocks' group up in the Scottish Highlands.

However, sounds like it was a typical Wednesday ride to me, glad you enjoyed it.

Surrey Hills
Hi, I will be staying in Cobham for 4 nights from tomorrow and I'm thinking of chucking the bike in the back of the car and trying the Surrey Hills instead of kicking my heels around a hotel. Coming down from Birmingham I haven't a clue what the area is like, so was thinking of trying the Nirvana wednesday night ride. Question is, would it be a rush getting from Cobham to Westcott for 18:30 and is there any parking near to the shop?

Hello Gary, you should certainly do it in well under an hour so as long as you are ready to leave where you are staying by 5.30 I can't see it being a problem.

There is parking in the village, either up by the church (assuming no church activities are taking place that night) or on the roads around the green which is opposite Nirvana Cycles.

What I will say is that the rides can be quite hard and fast. A typical ride will be towards 25 miles long have well over 2,000 ft of climbing and average around 10mph.

I say this as we had a fellow from Birmingham way join us a few weeks ago and he struggled from the 1st hill although one of our guys who was recovering from injury ended up doing a ride with him and meeting us all at the pub stop.

There is always a pub stop from about 9 to 10 and you won't get back to your car until 10.30 ish.

Sorry, I'm not trying to put you off, you are welcome to join us but just beware the rides can be quite tough.

If you do decide to come along do please leave a note here so we know to expect you. The rides don't normally actually leave the shop until a little after 6.30.

If you can't make that time there is another friendly group who start their Wednesday Night Rides a bit after us from near Leatherhead which is also a bit nearer you - they are called the Muddy Moles and there is a link to them on this website

Toby, thanks for the reply. Didn't have access to the guest book while I was in Cobham, so couldn't reply earlier.

Managed to get down to Peaslake Tuesday and Wednesday night and parked in the car park just outside the village. I found a really helpful bunch of blokes all around the area who pointed me in the right directions and offered good advice. Did Barry Knows Best, Yoghurt Pots and Telegraph Road (?)

It is a great area to ride, and look forward to visiting again. Thanks again for the advice.

Surrey hills Mountain Bike
Hi, i just starting riding my mountain bike in Surrey Hills, i`ve been 2 o 3 times there but i get lost most of the time, i just know very litle around peaslake, i was wondering if there is a group of people to ride with on the weekend?

Hi, sorry for the late reply.

There are so many groups who ride in this area its difficult to advise on who to ride with.

There is the ride that starts @ 9.30 from Nirvana in Westcott every Saturday morning but that is quite fast.

There is sometime a slower ride from Nirvana at 10.30 but that is more free ride so it kind of depends on your thing.

You could try and contact Pedel and Spoke bike shop in Peaslake and see if they now of anyone or if you can do Sunday Mornings there is a group called the Muddy Moles who do good rides locally.

In summary, if you are quite a strong rider try the 9.30 Nirvana Ride - another alternative is to just turn up at Peaslake and ask people around the village shop for route advice and I'm sure someone will be happy to show you around.
